Low Back Pain
Low back pain is one of the most prevalent causes of hospital and doctor visits. Some low back pain is mild and disappears on its own but other low back pain can return or linger around, leading to a decrease in function or even to disability. Physical therapists help people with low back pain improve or restore mobility and reduce their pain.
There are two types of low back pain: Acute low back pain: Sudden onset of low back pain that is caused while lifting heavy objects but sometimes with no known cause. Symptoms can last a few days to several weeks or months. Chronic low back pain: Low back pain that continues for over 12 weeks after the initial injury. The intensity of pain is usually decreased but lingers and will not go away. Treatments may help relieve chronic low back pain but sometimes pain continues despite receiving treatment.
Physical therapists are specialists who help to restore function and movement to people that suffered injuries, including low back pain. Through a holistic approach and non-invasive treatments, physical therapy will help you regain your function and health without the need for surgery and the side effects of medications. No two injuries are ever the same. At Komeo Physical Therapy, your treatment will be tailored to your specific symptoms and condition.
Once the examination is complete, your physical therapist will evaluate and identify the root causes that have contributed to your injury, and design an individualized treatment plan for your specific back problem. Can back pain be prevented?
You can work on many areas such as your core strength, spinal mobility, proper body mechanics, maintaining correct posture, and lifting objects properly to reduce the risk of low back pains occurring. Studies also show that even when you experience low back pain, those with good core strength who exercise regularly show an increased speed of recovery and less pain.
